An original short op-ed / rant: Just an American.
I'm sick and tired of the mentality of Blah-American : African American, Asian American, Japanese American, Korean American, Jewish American, Muslim American, .....
I don't care if it's continent, country, religion, or even ancestry based. I don't care if they were born in the US, because there are Nth generation immigrants who don't belong here.
Note, I'm talking about mentality, not data. I'm okay with data / information. It's fine to say something like, "My genetics is mostly of Korean ancestry."
I don't have a problem with people knowing or learning different cultures. In fact, I consider it a good thing to be aware of multiple cultures, because you can't evaluate the big picture if you only know one culture you're in.
I understand it's a fine line between integration and infiltration, because nothing is black & white. For example, I'm for traditional Japanese culture that makes Japanese renters the best renters -- reliable and keep the place pristine. Some cultural elements are so localized, they don't affect the country as a whole (e.g. East Asians avoiding wearing shoes indoors).
"The way Japanese people do this and that is cool" is totally different from "I'm proud of how Japanese do this and that." Either you do something and be proud of it, or it's not for you to be proud of.
I'm of the opinion that anyone with extra-American mindset should be kicked out of this country. I don't care if s/he is my parent, brother/sister, or even child. If you want to be that other thing, be that other thing where that other thing belongs.
Opinions welcome.
