For you geeks out there, a lesson in history.

I'm that paranoid person who always opted for the ECC memory.
Even my dedicated gaming PC, which I haven't turned on in months, is equipped with ECC UDIMMs.

You know what they say. Only the paranoid survive.

Having wrote all that, I will concede that on-die ECC, now required by JEDEC for all DDR5 DIMMs, should mitigate much of the issues for most users, as long as they run at JEDEC speeds. Of course, most PC enthusiasts don't run at JEDEC speeds, and the errors introduced between the DRAM chips and the Memory Controller won't be detected. Yes, DDR5 also specs CRC mechanism at the interface, but as far as I know, it is not enabled in standard PCs. Heck, that mechanism existed even in DDR4, but basically no one used it.

That's why I bought properly ECC DDR5 UDIMMs. Admittedly, I won't buy any more of them at current prices, so my tiny 8600G DeskMini is using standard SO-DIMMs. Of course, I'm running it at AMD's max spec, which is ...
