Athens was an anarchy, as direct democracy is a form of anarchic government. anyone that will tell you otherwise does not know the meaning of the term anarchy and want's to give the impression that Athens had leadership, which it didn't unless they elected a tyrant for the purposes of war, who then typically relinquished power after the campaign, unless they were alexander the great. which was the official end of democracy in Greece.
