As I have been playing GFL2 (first was DOAXVV), this is something that I just noticed recently. Yes, FOMO is a factor but never the root cause for successful microtransactions. It is also that most people are completionists.
Think about it. We all remember the time where we spend hours getting good and/or reading FAQs just to unlock anything. Then, micro transactions came and unlocking just comes easy from a gaming perspective. But being the completionists we are, it is clear that there are certain parts of the game that cannot be obtained by time and effort but with just money. Those who got used to being a completionist will have a hard time as it is their habit until hopefully, they/we realize that there are simply things that does not need completion.
Now why did I take the time to make this obvious post? There are bundles that becomes available in GFL2 for every 5th level reached. You'd get excited for the rewards only to be greeted with below:
