[Cybernetics and You: a risk if you dare]
We have seen much of tech advance quite a bit over the past 10 years alone. Let alone the past 20. Advancements in Ai, drones and even electronic weapons.
This one is going to be focused more on the topic of cybernetics, implants and the government.
So earlier as usual. While I wait for my phone to recharge from either use at work or just my lounging around and playing GFL Or sorting hentai and doujin, I usually play games. And during that brief 1 1/2-3 hours I have been replaying cyberpunk and it got me thinking while doing one of the quests. [If you don't want spoilers which it's been 5 years now so piss off, if not just continue].
What I'm getting at is the Peralez Gigs. The second one in particular when Elizabeth and Jefferson bring V into the Frey and discuss a break in. It leads to V searching their penthouse and discovering a hidden security room leading to a transmitter being discovered on their roof where V proceeds to investigate. After heading to where the transmitter was broadcasting V follows a truck where the transmitter was and after it stops proceeds to take out some gang members in the area. After taking them out and hacking into the vehicle V learns that the Peralez are part of a list of people who have gradually been brainwashed for months noticing altercation through brainscans. After learning more from Elizabeth how she herself is already aware and asks V to cover it up and not tell her husband V has a choice to either tell him or lie. The decision doesn't really matter because the focus now diverts a bit.
In arkham origins as batman heads to the sionis steel mill to apprehend joker, he makes way to managers office. (A bit different from how you remember in arkham city) and scrolls through the files learning that black mask (Roman sionis) has a pacemaker. Before the copperhead fight and as he goes down below to hunt for the joker and finds black mask he interrogates him and threatens to alter the pacemaker, raising the BPM it would elevate to his heart rate.
The point being, those Two (and pretty sure there's other examples through games and plenty of media) making me think how cybernetics despite being cool would themselves keep you at the heel of government.
As RGE and arch had said plenty of times on the topic, we are living in a cyberpunk utopia minus the cool shit.
Elon being a good autism and trying to use neurolink to help people is a step in a right direction but you know, there is gonna be government regulation when neurolink becomes an addition to the market.
We have seen a similar example of government overreach particularly with the automotive industry and them trying to institute subscription services on shit that should be primary to the car. Where eventually the government will regulate kill switches into cars to halt anyone they deem unnecessary or criminal and halt automotive function.
With that in mind when cybernetics move beyond minor neurological additions and prosthetics who's to say the government won't built in backdoor into cybernetics just to fuck with you.
Going back to the gaming examples, all that would be needed is a reason to ruin your life, and since we are seeing more and more freedoms eroded on the premises of government "security" it would be the perfect reason for them to keep tabs and make you submit. "Ohhh you were a bigot on social media? You shared the wrong kind of tweet? Itd be a shame if Those cybernetics you had just installed were to malfunction or completely change your overall behavior, making you a submissive puppet."
Now I am not against it in the sense of it being focused around a local network, something that keeps them from being fucked with Via an internet connection. But with how we have constantly seen governments around the world abusing power and created their surveillance, you can almost guarantee that they will do their damnedest to prevent you from being able to live as you want without a leash put on, and that least would be a backdoor into those cybernetics. That's where robots are a sketchy thing but as long as their AI is locally hosted it shouldn't be a problem when our waifu bots come into the world.
I guess it's probably for the best that cybernetics is still a long ways from how we see in cyberpunk and bladerunner.. but given the future of it and the thought of how the government is full of snakes and puppetmaster can you say that they would leave an easy way to sabotage you or subjugate you untouched?...
